"Talk to Me" - 4 Day Course

Talk To Me is a four day workshop about communication and people on the autism spectrum, presented by Rob Edwards, who is himself autistic.

Autism (which includes Asperger’s Syndrome) is a complex subject to approach as a counsellor, a partner, a friend, or a family member.  However, by accepting difference from a cultural perspective, rather than by the definition of medical “disorders”, many of the apparent obstacles to empathic connection can start to be overcome.

Rob has worked as a specialist childcare agency manager, a monk in an eastern spiritual order, and a music producer and DJ, and has at times juggled his work with caring for autistic friends and members of his family.  He is currently writing a book about supporting people on the spectrum.

In this four day workshop, Rob explores the themes of confidence, empathy, independence, initiative, intuition, connection and support.  His main focus throughout, however, is the means of communication by which non-autistic and autistic individuals try to relate to each other, and the changes to these which can bring about better understanding.

The course covers not only communication, but also relationships between autistic and non-autistic people, understanding difference and also common obstacles to life progression, and the difficulties that an individual might need to be supported with.

This workshop is open to counsellors, social workers, relatives of people with autism - in fact anyone who would like to gain greater awareness of communication with people on the  spectrum.
