8-Week Course (MBSR)


Mindfulness has become a real buzzword over the past few years. It is an ancient practice that offers a way to help manage the stresses of our modern world.

But what is it? And could it be lead to an enhanced sense of well-being in your life?

This 8-week course is designed to introduce you to mindful techniques and to help support you in starting a regular mindfulness practice. It is open to anyone who is curious about mindfulness, or to people who wish to refresh existing knowledge and practice.

The tutor of this course is Shahin Popple.  Shahin is a qualified counsellor and educator.  She has been teaching mindfulness for many years for a wide variety of organisations.  Shahin has a strong belief in the power of mindfulness to help to alleviate the stress and suffering that impact people's lives.

Within this course you will:

  • Gain an understanding and recognition of our tendency to be on autopilot rather than be fully present
  • Try mindfulness practices and skills to help manage stress and enhance well-being in your daily life
  • Increase your ability to relax and cope with difficult and stressful situations
  • Be more able to be steadier with whatever is happening without resisting it or judging it as good or bad
  • Have more self-compassion and kindness to all aspects of yourself
  • Learn how to apply mindfulness to your daily life (please allow approx 40 minutes per day for mindful practices whilst on this course
  • Be given a workbook with accompanying CD containing audio files of guided meditations
  • At the end of the course you will receive a certificate of attendance (75% attendance required)
  • The emphasis on this course is practical skill, and building a habit. Much like building physical fitness, regular home practice is encouraged to get the most out of it.

Previous Experience:
No prior knowledge or experience of mindfulness is required.
The course is open to most adults aged 18+
Mindfulness can be helpful in managing depression and anxiety, however, this course is not recommended for people who are currently experiencing an episode of clinically diagnosed anxiety, depression or other psychiatric illness.
